Back To School Youth Rally
By Chris Mueller
I have been to many different churches and talked to many different youth groups. I was able to intern for awhile in Louisiana and I have been a part of many great youth services. However, what I was a part of this past Friday night was nothing short of amazing! We have a wonderful youth group at Portage United Pentecostal Church! The rally on Friday at Calvary Tabernacle in Griffith, Indiana, was awesome! I believe to have a successful youth group you need many things, but the most important are passion, love, prayer, humor, and of course the Word of God. While at the rally Friday, I was able to observe these things in action by our youth group. The laughing, giggling, and selfie-taking on my phone was proof that our youth have a sense of humor.
During the service, I watched as the Word of God was brought forth by Bro. Rema Duncan (who did phenomenal), the youth passionately stand up and clap, while giving “amens,” oftentimes before the adults could get up. But to be honest, the greatest thing about Friday night wasn’t the singing, testimonies, signing, shouting, or even seeing old faces. The greatest thing was when the altar call was given, watching as our youth prayed with tears, not only for themselves, but for all around them. Even little Reagan Quinones tarried at the altar far after the service was over just swaying back in forth in the presence of God. There is a saying that says, “a youth group that prays together stays together.” If Friday night was any inclination, I believe this group of young people will be around for a while. I am grateful I was able to be a part of seeing this spectacular experience!
